OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter and U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma Tim Downing announced today that a Mangum pharmacy owner has pleaded guilty to two counts of healthcare fraud after orchestrating a false claims scheme that bilked the Medicare and Medicaid systems for more than $1 million.

A federal grand jury indicted Jeffrey Terry, 37, in March, after an investigation found he submitted false claims through his pharmacy, Bratton Drug, to SoonerCare and Medicare Part D for drugs that were never prescribed or dispensed to patients.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter, along with North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein have sent a letter to Congressional leadership in both chambers, asking for the removal of federal barriers that are currently preventing health care providers from offering treatment for opioid use disorder.

Opioid use disorder is the physical and psychological reliance on opioids. Symptoms of opioid addiction include uncontrollable cravings for the drugs and the inability to control opioid use despite its negative impacts.

Attorney General Mike Hunter today commended Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for voting to implement rules to ban caller ID spoofing in text messages and international calls.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai originally proposed the rules to the commission in July following the recommendations of a bipartisan coalition of 42 state attorneys general, including Attorney General Hunter, in May.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today secured an important victory for unborn children as Oklahoma County District Judge Cindy Truong upheld a 2015 state law that bans dismemberment abortions.

The legislation, House Bill 1721, bans the gruesome practice of dismembering unborn children while they are still alive in the womb.

Trial will proceed as scheduled

NORMAN – Attorney General Mike Hunter today released the following statement after Cleveland County District Judge Thad Balkman denied Johnson & Johnson’s motion for directed judgment, meaning the trial will proceed as scheduled.

Defendants filed the motion after the state rested last week, arguing not enough evidence had been produced for the trial to continue. Judge Balkman determined the state had offered enough evidence for the public nuisance claim to proceed.
