OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today released the following statement after Supreme Court Chief Justice Noma Gurich ruled against the defendants in the state’s trial against the nation’s leading opioid manufacturers, requiring the companies to meet all current deadlines.

NORMAN – Attorney General Mike Hunter today commended Cleveland County District Judge Thad Balkman for ruling in the state’s favor, avoiding a delay in the state’s trial against the nation’s leading manufacturers of opioid pain medication.

Today’s ruling was in response to a motion by the defendants, asking the judge to delay the start of the trial for 100 days. With the judge’s ruling, the trial remains on schedule to begin May 28.

Documents: Purdue Pharma hired PR firm to spread misinformation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today obtained release of documents previously confidential in the state’s case against the nation’s leading opioid manufacturers that show Purdue Pharma planned and executed a covert disinformation campaign with a public relations firm that attacked attorneys general who had either filed lawsuits or were considering filing law suits against opioid manufacturers.

Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter launched a new review board Tuesday to track the number of opioid-related deaths in the state.

The Opioid Overdose Fatality Review Board was created through House Bill 2798, which was signed into law last May and became effective in November.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today announced the Oklahoma Commission on Opioid Abuse will continue its work studying the state’s opioid overdose and addiction epidemic when it reconvenes for the first time this year on Thursday.

In addition to discussing more ways to address the ongoing opioid crisis, the commission will welcome two new legislative members in Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, and Rep. Chris Kannady, R-Oklahoma City. They are replacing Sen. AJ Griffin and Rep. Tim Downing, who didn’t seek reelection to their seats last year.
