State to Dismiss Bosse Appeal After Successful Ruling

More McGirt-related cases moving forward at Supreme Court to overturn or limit the 2020 ruling

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General John O’Connor today announced the state will dismiss its appeal in the case against Shaun Michael Bosse after securing a major victory in the state’s case against him earlier this week.

In addition to other McGirt-related cases already pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, Attorney General O’Connor plans to file more cases to either overturn or limit the McGirt decision in the coming weeks.

Attorney General, Senate Pro Tem and House Speaker Comment on Cherokee and Chickasaw Reservation Rulings

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter, Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat and House Speaker Charles McCall today released the following joint statement after rulings from the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals that determined the tribal boundaries of the Cherokee and Chickasaw Nations had never been disestablished by Congress.

The result of this decision is that crimes involving tribal members in the 27 counties that are wholly or partially within these reservations will now be prosecuted by federal or tribal authorities.
